SmartSide begins as wood but is built to outlast a sawn board. The SmartGuard treatment — zinc borate and a resin binder worked through the strands rather than brushed on the surface — is what gives it durability against the rot and insects that plague natural wood, which matters in a town where shaded canyon walls stay damp for months.
