Why we tear off instead of siding over the old material

Nailing new siding over failing siding is faster and cheaper on day one, and it hides the exact thing you are paying to fix. Taking the old cladding off is what lets us see the sheathing and substrate, confirm whether a water-resistive barrier is present and intact, and correct flashing at windows, doors, and wall transitions — the details that actually keep a Delta wall dry through wind-driven winter rain. (Tear-off exposes the sheathing and the barrier behind it, not the framing; the studs only come into view if the sheathing itself has to be removed, which is a larger scope we would flag if we find it.) Covering over also adds weight and can trap moisture against a wall that is already holding humidity. On an older Isleton home, a proper tear-off is almost always the honest choice.

How the job runs

A replacement is a sequence, not a single day: we walk the walls and set a written scope, measure and spec, pull the permit, then tear off and inspect the substrate before anything new goes up. From there it is the water-resistive barrier and flashing, siding installed to the manufacturer's specifications, and a finish-and-walkthrough at the end. Because openings and cladding share the same flashing, it is worth deciding up front whether window replacement is part of the same project.
