CertainTeed offers four siding families: standard vinyl, insulated vinyl, polymer shakes, and fiber cement. The useful question isn't whether to choose CertainTeed. It's which of those lines fits your house, your elevation, and your parcel.
Bay Area Siding Company is based in Larkspur and installs CertainTeed siding throughout the SF Bay Area. We help you match a product line to the conditions your home faces, from foggy coastal walls to sun-baked inland elevations. We then install it over a properly detailed weather barrier.

Call (415) 619-5167A widely used vinyl lap siding with a broad color range. It's a practical choice when you want a clean, low-maintenance lap look and plenty of color options.
A value-oriented vinyl lap line for budget-conscious projects where low maintenance and lower upfront cost matter most.
Vinyl with a contoured foam backing that adds rigidity and some added energy performance. CertainTeed's former Craneboard insulated line is now consolidated here.
Polymer shakes and shingles that give a cedar-shake look without the staining and splitting that come with real wood. Often used on gables or as a full-wall accent.
CertainTeed's fiber cement line. It's a heavier, paintable, noncombustible cladding for homeowners who want a masonry-like board rather than vinyl.
| Consideration | Standard vinyl (Monogram, Mainstreet) | Insulated vinyl (CedarBoards) | Polymer shake (Cedar Impressions) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Look | Classic lap profiles in many colors | Lap profiles with a flatter, more substantial face | Shake and shingle textures that read as cedar |
| Rigidity on uneven walls | Flexible panels that follow the wall, so waves in older sheathing can show through | The foam backing stiffens the panel and helps it lie straighter | Thick, molded panels with good dimensional presence |
| Energy contribution | Minimal on its own | Modest continuous insulation layer that reduces thermal bridging at studs | Minimal on its own |
| Impact feel | Can dent or crack under hard impact, especially in cold | Foam support makes the face more resistant to push-in and dents | Heavier-gauge molded material holds up well to everyday knocks |
| Maintenance | Occasional washing; no painting | Occasional washing; no painting | Occasional washing; no staining or sealing |
| Heat and fire considerations | Combustible. Can distort near grills or under concentrated reflected sunlight | Same vinyl face characteristics as standard vinyl | Combustible polymer. Fire-zone suitability depends on the assembly and the AHJ |
| Honest trade-off | Lowest upfront cost, but a thinner feel | Higher material cost than standard vinyl in exchange for rigidity and a solid feel | Higher cost per square than lap vinyl, which is why many homes use it on accents only |
We treat the siding as the final layer of a wall assembly, not the whole job. We'll also tell you plainly when a less expensive CertainTeed line is the sensible choice.
Sheathing, WRB, and flashing are inspected and corrected before any CertainTeed panel is hung.
We explain the real trade-offs among Mainstreet, Monogram, CedarBoards, Cedar Impressions, and WeatherBoards, and scope the job in writing.

It depends on the parcel and the assembly. Chapter 7A of the California Building Code applies specific requirements to exterior walls and openings on designated fire-hazard parcels. Vinyl and polymer are combustible, so they may be limited there. We check the Cal Fire hazard maps and confirm with your AHJ at permit time. Where vinyl isn't a fit, CertainTeed's WeatherBoards fiber cement is one noncombustible alternative worth discussing.
Vinyl handles heat when it's installed with room to expand and contract. Two things worth checking on sunny elevations are very dark colors and nearby low-E windows, which can reflect concentrated sunlight onto the wall and distort panels. Choosing color deliberately and correct fastening address most of this.
For many homes, yes. On older walls with uneven sheathing, the foam backing in CedarBoards helps the panels lie straighter and feel more solid. It also adds a modest continuous insulation layer. If your walls are flat and budget is the priority, Monogram or Mainstreet is a reasonable choice.
Yes. A common approach is lap vinyl on the main walls with Cedar Impressions on gables or a front bump-out. The transitions need proper trim and flashing so water sheds cleanly from one material to the other.
Vinyl and polymer panels don't rust. The details behind them matter more near the coast, though. Marine-layer moisture puts a premium on a well-lapped WRB and flashing, and salt air calls for corrosion-resistant fasteners and trim components.
