Fire-hazard parcels. The town itself sits low, around 65 to 250 feet, in open apple country. Some wooded and hillside parcels toward the coast carry fire-hazard designations under the 2025 Cal Fire Fire Hazard Severity Zone maps, which Sonoma County adopted for its unincorporated areas. Where a designation applies, California Building Code Chapter 7A can govern exterior wall coverings and generally favors noncombustible or ignition-resistant materials. Vinyl and polymer products are usually not the fit in that case, and noncombustible fiber cement usually is. Whether Chapter 7A applies depends on your parcel, the product, and the scope of work, so we confirm with the permitting authority before recommending a material.
