CertainTeed is worth knowing about because it isn't one product — it's a full siding catalog under one manufacturer, spanning budget vinyl to insulated vinyl, polymer shakes, and fiber cement. For a Cupertino homeowner, that breadth is the appeal: you can often find the look and the price point you want without leaving a single warranty system. We install CertainTeed across its lines, and this page walks the lineup so you can see where your house fits. If you're comparing brands rather than products, it may help to read this alongside our fiber cement and vinyl category pages.

Start here. Call (415) 619-5167 or request a bid.

The CertainTeed lineup, tier by tier

Vinyl. This is the volume of the catalog and where the value lives. The Monogram line is a well-regarded standard clapboard, Mainstreet sits at a more economical tier, and Cedar Impressions delivers a shake-and-shingle look in vinyl — useful when you want texture and dimension without the upkeep of real cedar. The color and profile choice across these lines is wide.

Insulated vinyl. CedarBoards is CertainTeed's foam-backed insulated line (it's where the former Craneboard insulated products now live). The contoured foam adds wall insulation, keeps the panel flatter and more rigid, and softens the hollow feel of standard vinyl. In a Cupertino home that heats up through a long, sunny summer, the added insulation is a practical benefit, not just a spec-sheet line.

Polymer shakes. For a deep, authentic shake or shingle texture beyond what standard vinyl offers, CertainTeed's polymer shake products give a heavier, more sculpted look while staying low-maintenance.

Fiber cement. CertainTeed also makes fiber cement under the WeatherBoards name — noncombustible, dimensionally stable, and a candidate where you want the substance and fire resistance of cement board within the CertainTeed system. This is the line to look at if your project leans toward the concerns we cover on the fiber cement page.

Matching the line to the home

Because the catalog is broad, the real work is fit. On Cupertino's postwar ranch and tract homes, a Monogram or CedarBoards vinyl often lands the right balance of cost and appearance. On an Eichler, the equation is stricter — those flat-roofed, post-and-beam homes want clean horizontal lines and slim reveals, so if you're set on the CertainTeed system there, we'd steer the conversation toward the profiles that respect that architecture, and be candid if a different material serves it better. And on foothill parcels, material combustibility enters the picture (more on that below), which can move the recommendation toward the WeatherBoards fiber cement within the same brand.

Warranties

One reason homeowners stay within a single manufacturer is warranty coherence. CertainTeed backs its siding lines with strong limited warranties, and the specific terms vary by product and by how the material is installed. We install to the manufacturer's requirements so the coverage holds, and we'll go over the applicable warranty for whichever line you choose rather than quoting a figure that might not match your product.

The fire-hazard question on the west side

Most of Cupertino is flat valley floor, where the choice among CertainTeed's lines is purely about look, energy, and budget. But the city's western edge climbs toward the Santa Cruz Mountains, and CAL FIRE's 2025 maps expanded the areas designated moderate, high, and very high fire hazard in Cupertino's response area. Vinyl and polymer are combustible; the WeatherBoards fiber cement is not. On a parcel with a fire-hazard designation, that distinction can decide which part of the catalog is appropriate. Whether it applies to your project depends on your specific parcel, which we verify against the City's fire-hazard lookup before specifying — and for most valley-floor homes it doesn't come up at all.

Installation: what's behind the siding

Whatever CertainTeed line you choose, the re-side begins by removing the old cladding. That exposes the sheathing or substrate and the water-resistive barrier and flashing — not the framing — which is the layer we inspect and correct. On homes built in the 1950s and 60s the WRB and flashing frequently need renewal, and we take care of that before the new siding goes on. Vinyl and insulated vinyl each have their own fastening, expansion, and accessory requirements; getting those right is what separates a wall that performs from one that warps or leaks.

Permitting in Cupertino

Siding replacement is permitted work. The City's Building Division offers an instant online permit for residential re-sides, though not for historic properties, HOA-governed homes, or Eichlers, which go through a standard application. We handle the permit either way. Cupertino's rule is straightforward: if the work isn't exempt, it needs a permit.

What affects the price

Within the CertainTeed range, cost tracks the line you choose — Mainstreet vinyl and WeatherBoards fiber cement sit at very different price points. Beyond that, the drivers are wall area and stories, how much substrate and flashing repair turns up at tear-off, whether trim and accessories are in scope, and site access. We price after a measured walkthrough.

FAQ

Does CertainTeed make more than vinyl? Yes. CertainTeed's catalog runs from economy and standard vinyl (Mainstreet, Monogram) to shake-look vinyl (Cedar Impressions), insulated vinyl (CedarBoards, which absorbed the old Craneboard line), polymer shakes, and fiber cement (WeatherBoards). One brand, several materials — which is why it's useful when you want options within a single warranty system.

Which CertainTeed line is best for a Cupertino foothill home? If your parcel carries a fire-hazard designation, the noncombustible WeatherBoards fiber cement is the line to look at, since the vinyl and polymer products are combustible. Whether a fire-hardening requirement applies depends on your parcel — we check the City's lookup before recommending.

Is insulated vinyl worth it here? For many Cupertino homes, yes. CedarBoards adds wall insulation and rigidity for a modest step up from standard vinyl, and the insulation earns its keep through long, hot valley summers. We'll compare it against standard vinyl at the estimate.

Do you install the whole CertainTeed range? We install CertainTeed across its lines and match the product to your home, budget, and — where relevant — your parcel's fire-hazard status. We are not describing ourselves as a certified or authorized CertainTeed dealer; we simply install the product.
