Nothing quite replicates real wood. If you want the genuine article on your Dublin home — cedar or redwood clapboard, hand-look shingle and shake, or a true board-and-batten wall — wood siding delivers a depth, texture, and warmth that engineered and synthetic products approximate but never fully match. It's also a renewable, repairable material that a skilled crew can maintain almost indefinitely. What it asks in return is honesty about maintenance, and, on a small number of Dublin parcels, about fire. Bay Area Siding Company installs wood siding across the Tri-Valley, and we'd rather have both of those conversations up front than sell you a wall you'll be frustrated with.

Wood siding isn't one thing — the species and the profile together set the look and the upkeep:
We'll match species, profile, and finish — stain to show the grain or paint for a solid color — to the architecture and the result you're picturing.
This is the part that decides whether wood is right for you. Wood is the highest-maintenance cladding, full stop, and Dublin's climate leans on it from both directions. The hot, high-UV inland summers break down a stain or paint finish faster than a cooler, cloudier climate would, and the wet winters then test whatever protection is left. Left unmaintained, wood will eventually check, cup, gray, and — where water sits — rot, and it remains attractive to insects. Maintained on schedule, with re-staining or repainting at the right intervals and prompt attention to any failed spot, it lasts and looks superb for decades. The right buyer for wood is someone who values the look enough to keep up the finish, or to have us do it. If low upkeep is your real goal, we'll point you honestly to fiber cement or LP SmartSide engineered wood, which give a wood look with far less finish maintenance.
Wood is combustible, and in the Tri-Valley that deserves a precise answer rather than a scare or a shrug. The great majority of Dublin sits on low-hazard valley floor, where wood siding carries no special fire restriction and is a perfectly legitimate choice. But if your property is up along the northern Dublin Hills ridgeline or on an eastern open-space margin that Cal Fire's recent maps designate as a fire-hazard zone, California Building Code Chapter 7A can govern specific exterior assemblies — and combustible wood cladding is generally not the appropriate choice on those assemblies. There a noncombustible material like fiber cement is the sound route. Whether Chapter 7A applies, and to which parts of your home, depends on your parcel and the scope of work, which we confirm with the City before speccing anything. We won't put wood where it doesn't belong, and we won't rule it out where it's genuinely fine.
In Dublin's master-planned communities, real wood can go either way. Some associations welcome it as a premium, on-character material; others restrict it to accent areas or exclude it in favor of lower-maintenance claddings to keep the neighborhood's appearance consistent over time. Because wood's finish will change faster than fiber cement's factory color, an HOA focused on long-term uniformity may steer you elsewhere. We check your community's approved materials and prepare the submittal before you settle on wood, so there are no surprises at review.
A wood re-side is permitted through the City of Dublin Building Division, and where it changes the home's appearance the Planning Division may route it through a Site Development Review — we handle both. When the old cladding comes off, we inspect the sheathing and substrate, confirm a sound water-resistive barrier (WRB), and correct flashing at windows, doors, and wall bases before the new wood goes up. Correct back-priming, gapping, and flashing are what let wood shed water and last, so with this material the install detail is as important as the species. Framing is only opened if the sheathing itself needs replacing.
We price after a walkthrough. Wood's drivers are the species and grade you choose; the profile and how much of it is intricate (shingle coursing and board-and-batten take more labor than plain lap); stain versus paint; the size and stories of the home; any substrate repair found at tear-off; and the HOA and Site Development Review timelines. Wood generally sits at the premium end on both material and long-term upkeep — worth budgeting for the finish maintenance as well as the install.
Wood is the real thing, but it's worth seeing next to the look-alikes. LP SmartSide gives a warm engineered-wood grain with much less upkeep; fiber cement and James Hardie in Dublin offer a paintable, noncombustible board; and vinyl or the CertainTeed lineup lead on budget and maintenance. Finished work is in our project gallery, and more on the Tri-Valley service area.
Is wood siding a bad idea in Dublin's heat? Not bad, but demanding. The hot, high-UV summers wear down stain and paint faster than a milder climate, so wood needs re-finishing on a shorter cycle and prompt repair of any failed spot. Kept up, it lasts and looks excellent; neglected, it declines. If low upkeep is the priority, engineered wood or fiber cement is the better match.
Can I put wood siding on a home near the Dublin Hills? It depends on the parcel. On the valley floor, where most of Dublin sits, wood is fine. On a designated fire-hazard parcel along the northern ridgeline or eastern open-space margins, Chapter 7A can govern the assembly and a noncombustible cladding is generally required instead. We confirm your parcel's status with the City first.
Will my Dublin HOA approve real wood siding? Some do, some restrict or exclude it to keep long-term appearance consistent, since wood's finish changes faster than factory-finished materials. We check your association's approved materials and prepare the submittal before you commit.
How much maintenance does wood siding really need? Plan on periodic re-staining or repainting — sooner on sun-facing walls in Dublin's climate — plus prompt attention to any cracked, cupped, or water-exposed spot. It's the highest-maintenance cladding, which is the trade for its unmatched look. We can handle the finish upkeep as well as the install.
Call (415) 619-5167 or request a bid. We'll look at the home, confirm your parcel's fire status and HOA rules, and give you the honest picture on species, finish, and upkeep.
