What T1-11 is, and why it fails

T1-11 is a structural-grade panel siding — plywood or oriented strand board with vertical grooves milled to mimic board-and-batten. Its whole weakness is water. The panel depends entirely on an intact paint or stain film and properly detailed edges to stay dry; the moment the finish cracks, the grooves and bottom edges wick moisture and the wood-based core begins to come apart. The fire-zone consideration

One local note matters if you're on the wrong side of the map. Cal Fire's 2025 Fire Hazard Severity Zone maps place zoned areas along Martinez's hillsides and Alhambra Valley edges.
