CertainTeed is one of the few siding manufacturers where "which product?" has a lot of answers under one name. The lineup includes budget-friendly vinyl lap, textured shake and shingle profiles, foam-backed insulated panels, polymer shakes, and a fiber cement line. For a Vacaville homeowner, that range is useful. You can match a product to your wall, your budget, and your exposure to the valley sun without switching brands halfway through the conversation.
Bay Area Siding Company installs CertainTeed siding across Solano County from our base in Larkspur. We'll help you narrow the lineup to the one or two products that make sense for your house, then handle the permit, tear-off, weather barrier, and installation.

Think of CertainTeed as four families, each suited to a different homeowner.
Standard vinyl lap: Mainstreet and Monogram. These are the workhorse horizontal profiles.
Both deliver what vinyl does well: color that runs through the panel, no repainting, and a lower installed cost than fiber cement or engineered wood.
Shake and shingle looks: Cedar Impressions. These are vinyl panels molded to read like cedar shakes or shingles. They work well on gables, as an accent band over lap siding, or across a whole elevation when you want a cottage or Craftsman feel without cedar's upkeep.
Insulated vinyl: CedarBoards. CedarBoards bonds a contoured foam backing to the vinyl panel. The foam makes the wall face stiffer and flatter, which reduces the wavy look cheaper vinyl can develop. It also adds a modest layer of insulation outboard of the sheathing. CertainTeed's former Craneboard insulated line now sits in this family, so if you've been researching Craneboard, CedarBoards is the current equivalent to discuss.
Fiber cement: WeatherBoards. This is CertainTeed's cement-based siding. It is noncombustible, dimensionally stable, and paintable. It sits in the same category as the other fiber cement brands covered on our fiber cement hub.
CertainTeed backs its siding with manufacturer warranties that are strong for the category. Coverage terms vary by product line, so we review the specific warranty for the product you choose instead of quoting a single number for the whole brand.
Vacaville sits in the hot, high-UV inland valley between Fairfield and Davis. The stress on a wall here comes from long, bright summers and a large swing between afternoon heat and cool nights. It doesn't come from salt air or freezing. That climate doesn't rule out any CertainTeed product, but it changes how we'd steer you within the lineup.
With vinyl, installation technique matters more here than in a mild climate. Vinyl expands and contracts noticeably as it heats and cools. To allow for that movement, installers:
A panel nailed down hard will buckle on a July afternoon. We install to CertainTeed's published instructions because that is what keeps a vinyl wall flat in this kind of heat.
Color choice carries weight. Darker vinyl colors absorb more solar heat. Some lines offer darker shades engineered for heat resistance, but on a west- or south-facing wall we'll talk honestly about how far toward dark you want to go.
Reflected sunlight is a real, if uncommon, issue. In some tract settings, sunlight concentrated off a neighbor's Low-E window glass has been known to distort vinyl siding. It is site-specific and not a reason to avoid vinyl. It is worth a look during our walkthrough, especially where homes sit close together.
Why CedarBoards and WeatherBoards often come up. The foam backing on CedarBoards stiffens the panel and helps it stay visually flat. WeatherBoards sidesteps the thermal-movement question almost entirely because fiber cement is far more dimensionally stable than vinyl. Many Vacaville owners end up choosing between those two, based on budget and the look they want.
A lot of Vacaville's housing is postwar neighborhoods and later tract subdivisions, many originally clad in hardboard, T1-11, or early composites that are now swelling, cracking, or refusing to hold paint.
Vinyl is combustible. On parcels in a designated fire hazard severity zone, California Building Code Chapter 7A can set requirements for exterior wall coverings and related assemblies, and a standard vinyl wall may not satisfy them. Whether Chapter 7A applies depends on:
It does not apply to the city as a whole. The valley-floor tracts that make up much of Vacaville are generally lower-risk than the rural edges.
Where a parcel does fall in a mapped zone, CertainTeed's WeatherBoards fiber cement is the lineup's noncombustible option. It lets you stay with one manufacturer while meeting a stricter standard. We confirm the designation and the applicable requirements with the City of Vacaville Building Division before recommending a product. If fire resilience is your top priority, also read our Vacaville James Hardie page to compare fiber cement brands side by side.
Re-siding in Vacaville is permitted through the City of Vacaville Building Division. We pull the permit as part of the job.
The work runs in this order:
If you're also replacing windows, doing both at once allows cleaner flashing integration at every opening. See our Vacaville window replacement page. For the broader re-side decision, including materials beyond CertainTeed, start with Vacaville siding replacement.
The CertainTeed hub has more on the brand. Browse finished exteriors on our projects page, and see all Solano County coverage on the Solano service area page.
We don't post prices because each wall is different. The main factors are:
A walkthrough gives you a real number.
Is CertainTeed vinyl a good idea in Vacaville's heat? It can be, as long as it's installed correctly. Vinyl needs room to expand and contract, so loose center-slot nailing and proper gaps at trim matter a great deal here. Insulated CedarBoards and lighter colors on sun-facing walls also help it stay flat.
What's the difference between CedarBoards and Craneboard? Craneboard was CertainTeed's insulated vinyl line, and it has been consolidated into the CedarBoards insulated family. If you liked Craneboard, CedarBoards is the current product to compare.
My home is near Pleasants Valley. Can I still use CertainTeed? Possibly, but maybe not vinyl. If your parcel is in a designated fire hazard zone, Chapter 7A requirements may apply to the exterior walls. In that case, CertainTeed's WeatherBoards fiber cement is the likely fit. We confirm your parcel's designation and scope with the City of Vacaville Building Division before recommending anything.
Do I need a permit for CertainTeed siding in Vacaville? Plan on it. Re-siding is permitted through the City of Vacaville Building Division, and we handle the permit as part of the job.
