Marvin sits at the premium end of the window market. It builds wood and fiberglass windows with a lot of design flexibility, including custom sizes, architectural shapes, and wood interiors that can be stained or painted. That matters in Vallejo, where much of the housing is old: Italianate and Queen Anne Victorians, Eastlake cottages, Colonial Revivals, and early-1900s bungalows, many still on their original single-pane sash. If you want the comfort of modern insulated glass without the house looking like it lost its windows, Marvin is one of the brands worth considering.
Bay Area Siding Company is a Larkspur-based window and siding contractor, and we install Marvin windows throughout Vallejo and Solano County. We measure, help you choose the line and options, handle the permit, and install.

Vallejo's older homes tend to have window openings that don't match standard catalog sizes. The trim is often real wood, and the proportions of the sash are part of the architecture. Tall double-hungs on a Victorian are a good example: the narrow meeting rail and slim profile are what make the facade read correctly. A generic insert with a thick frame shrinks the glass and flattens that look.
Marvin's strengths fit that problem well:
The honest trade-off is cost. Marvin is a premium brand, and on a whole-house project the price difference compared with vinyl can be substantial. For some Vallejo homes, especially the most architecturally significant ones or those in a historic district, that difference buys something real. For others it doesn't, and we'll tell you so.
Marvin organizes its products into a few collections. Here is how we think about each one for Vallejo houses.
Elevate pairs a durable fiberglass exterior with a wood interior. It is often the sweet spot for owners of Vallejo bungalows and Colonial Revivals. The exterior holds up to weather without the scraping and repainting that old wood sash demands. Inside, you still get warm wood that suits original trim. If you want a wood-interior window without going fully custom, Elevate is usually where the conversation starts.
Essential is fiberglass inside and out. It gives up the wood interior in exchange for a cleaner, lower-maintenance frame. It suits newer or plainer homes, rentals, and rooms where you'd rather not maintain a stained wood surface, such as bathrooms or kitchens. It is still a Marvin product with fiberglass's stability, at a more approachable position within the brand.
Signature is Marvin's top tier. It is the line for projects where sightlines, profiles, and custom sizing matter most. On a significant Victorian, an Eastlake cottage with distinctive openings, or a home going through historic review, Signature gives you the most room to match what was there. It is also the most expensive of the three, so we reserve the recommendation for homes that actually benefit from it.
Not sure which fits? That's normal. We usually look at the house, the openings, and your budget, then narrow it to one or two options you can compare side by side.
Parts of Vallejo fall under historic protection, including the Architectural Heritage District (the former Old City area), St. Vincent's Hill, and individually designated landmarks. If your home is one of these, changing window appearance can require a Certificate of Appropriateness before a building permit is issued. The procedures are in Vallejo Municipal Code section 16.614.09 and are administered through the Planning Division.
That review is the practical reason some Vallejo owners land on a brand like Marvin. The question the reviewers care about is whether the new window reads like the old one. Profile, sightlines, grille configuration, and material can all come into it. Marvin's range gives us more tools to answer that question well.
We can't promise any particular product will be approved, because that is the city's call. What we can do is scope your project with the review in mind from day one, so we aren't specifying something you have to walk back.
Not in a district? Many Vallejo owners still choose Marvin for the same reasons: they like the look of their older home and want to keep it.
A Marvin window set poorly will still leak air and water. Vallejo's waterfront and exposed neighborhoods get steady wind off San Pablo Bay and the Carquinez Strait. In those spots, the quality of the flashing, air-sealing, and weather-stripping determines how much of that wind you feel indoors.
There are two ways to install a replacement window:
We choose the method opening by opening, based on what we find, rather than defaulting to one approach for the whole house.
How the job runs: We measure each opening, walk you through line and option choices, and prepare the permit. The City of Vallejo requires a building permit for window replacement, submitted through the Building Division at the Central Permit Center, and a Title 24 energy compliance form is part of the submittal. Title 24 performance requirements depend on climate zone and the current code cycle, so we confirm the numbers at permit time and specify glass that meets them. Premium custom units can take longer to arrive than stock products, and we build that into the schedule we give you. On install day, we remove the old units, inspect the openings, set the new windows level and plumb with proper flashing and air-sealing, and finish the trim.
A small number of parcels along Vallejo's northern and eastern hill edges may fall within a mapped fire hazard severity zone. If yours does, glazing requirements for certain openings can apply. We confirm your address's designation and any requirements with the city rather than assuming.
We don't publish prices, because the same brand can land in very different places depending on the job. The main drivers:
Marvin isn't the only good answer. It is the right answer for a specific kind of house and owner. For context, here are the other brands we install:
For the bigger-picture decision, start with our Vallejo window replacement page or the Bay Area window replacement hub. You can also see more on the brand at our Marvin windows hub. If the siding on your older home is due too, our Vallejo siding replacement page covers that side of the exterior. Both projects can be coordinated so the window flashing ties into the new weather barrier.
Is Marvin worth the price on a Vallejo Victorian? Often, yes, especially when the original sash proportions matter to the facade or the home is going through historic review. Marvin's custom sizing and wood-interior options help a replacement read like the original. On simpler homes, a less expensive brand may deliver most of the comfort benefit for less, and we'll show you both paths.
My house is in the Architectural Heritage District. Can I install Marvin windows? Possibly. The city decides through its Certificate of Appropriateness process (VMC 16.614.09), which looks at how new windows affect the home's appearance. We scope and specify with that review in mind, but approval rests with Vallejo's Planning Division.
What's the difference between Marvin Elevate and Essential? Elevate has a fiberglass exterior with a wood interior. Essential is fiberglass inside and out. Choose Elevate if you want wood inside to match existing trim, and Essential if you prefer lower maintenance and a cleaner frame.
Do I need a permit for Marvin windows in Vallejo? Yes. Window replacement requires a building permit through Vallejo's Building Division, including a Title 24 energy form. We handle the permitting as part of the job.
We'll look at your openings, your trim, and whether any historic review applies, then recommend the Marvin collection that fits, or tell you if another brand makes more sense. Browse finished work in our project gallery, see our Solano service area, and request an estimate or call (415) 619-5167.
