Andersen is the name a lot of homeowners already know before they start shopping — a premium national brand with a century-plus of recognition and a materials story that sets it apart from the vinyl field. Its signature is Fibrex, a wood-and-polymer composite Andersen developed to be more stable and durable than vinyl while holding finishes and slim profiles better. Bay Area Siding Company installs Andersen windows across Castro Valley and the East Bay. If you're after a higher-end window with strong brand backing and a distinctive material, this is the page for you.

Andersen's positioning is premium, and its differentiation is material. The Fibrex composite — used across the 400 Series, the architectural A-Series, and the 100 Series (which is full-Fibrex) — is stiffer and more dimensionally stable than vinyl, which lets Andersen build narrower frames with more glass and hold color and finish well over time. Alongside Fibrex, Andersen offers wood and clad-wood options for owners who want a genuine wood interior with a protected exterior. The result is a brand that spans from the accessible 100 Series up to the fully architectural A-Series, all under a name with deep recognition and resale familiarity.
The lines differ meaningfully — the 100 Series and the A-Series are very different windows at very different price points — so part of our job at the walkthrough is matching the right Andersen line to your home and budget.
Castro Valley's housing gives Andersen a couple of natural homes. On the valley floor, a homeowner upgrading from tired aluminum or single-pane windows and wanting a step above builder-grade vinyl will find the 400 Series or Fibrex lines a substantial jump in feel and finish. Up in the canyons and along the eastern ridges, the custom and character homes are where the A-Series and clad-wood options earn their keep — larger sizes, architectural detailing, and a wood interior that suits those houses. Andersen's slim, stable Fibrex frames also handle the inland climate well: Castro Valley runs warmer and drier than the coastal Bay, and a stable composite frame paired with a solar-control Low-E glass package keeps sun-facing rooms comfortable without the frame movement cheaper materials can show under sustained heat.
As always inland, the glass package is the biggest comfort lever. We spec Low-E glazing tuned for solar-heat-gain control to each elevation's exposure. California's Title 24 energy code sets the maximum U-factor and solar-heat-gain values a replacement window has to meet, and those targets vary by climate zone and code cycle — we confirm the current numbers at permit time and choose the Andersen glass to meet them rather than quoting a fixed figure.
Andersen's lane is premium, brand-recognized, and material-driven:
If brand recognition, a distinctive composite, and higher-end wood options matter to you, Andersen belongs on the shortlist. If budget leads, the value brands may serve you better. Compare the whole field from the window replacement overview.
One local note that applies regardless of brand. Castro Valley's eastern canyons and ridgelines fall within Alameda County Fire's adopted Fire Hazard Severity Zones, updated in 2025. On a parcel inside one of those zones, altering an opening to install a window generally triggers California Building Code Chapter 7A glazing requirements — typically multi-paned glazing with at least one tempered pane. Whether it applies depends on your parcel and whether the work is a repair or an alteration, so we confirm it with the county and spec the Andersen unit accordingly. Valley-floor homes are usually outside those requirements.
We field-measure every opening and set the new units level, plumb, flashed, and air-sealed. We do both retrofit (insert) installs — less invasive, keeping the existing frame — and new-construction (full-frame) installs, which strip the opening so the flashing can be fully renewed where there's rot or a history of water intrusion; on premium windows a proper full-frame install often gets the most out of the product. Because Castro Valley is unincorporated, the permit runs through the Alameda County Community Development Agency's Building Inspection Division, with a Title 24 fenestration form in the submittal. We handle it.

We don't quote online, and Andersen spans a wide range on its own — the 100 Series and the A-Series are worlds apart on price. Beyond the line, the drivers are the number and size of openings, material (Fibrex versus clad-wood), the glass package, retrofit versus new-construction, framing condition (rot repair adds scope), any fire-zone tempered/multi-pane glazing, and access. A walkthrough gets you a real number.
What is Fibrex, and why does Andersen use it? Fibrex is Andersen's proprietary wood-and-polymer composite. It's stiffer and more dimensionally stable than vinyl, which lets Andersen build narrower frames with more glass and hold finish and color well over time. It's used across the 100, 400, and A-Series lines in different ways.
Which Andersen line is right for my home? It depends on budget and style. The 100 Series is the accessible full-Fibrex line, the 400 Series is the popular mid-premium range, and the A-Series is the architectural top tier with clad-wood options — a strong fit for hillside custom homes. We match the line to your home at the walkthrough.
Do you install Andersen, or are you an Andersen-certified contractor? We install Andersen windows. We don't advertise any dealer or certification status — the value is correct installation and flashing so the windows perform and the warranty holds.
Will my hillside home need tempered glass? Possibly, if the work is an alteration on a parcel in one of Alameda County Fire's designated fire-hazard zones — Chapter 7A generally calls for multi-paned glazing with at least one tempered pane there. We confirm your parcel and scope with the county before ordering.
Call (415) 619-5167 or request a bid. We'll measure, match the right Andersen line and glass to your home, handle the county side, and install them right.
