If your priority is keeping maintenance and cost down, vinyl siding is worth a serious look. It's the most budget-friendly cladding we install, it never needs repainting, and modern lines come in a wide range of colors and profiles — from traditional lap to shakes and scallops. Bay Area Siding Company installs vinyl throughout Corte Madera, and as a Larkspur-based contractor working a few minutes away, we can come out, look at your walls, and tell you plainly whether vinyl is the right fit for your house — or whether your setting points somewhere else.

Get a straight answer. Call (415) 619-5167 or request a bid.

The case for vinyl

Vinyl earns its popularity on running cost. The color is molded through the material, so there's no paint to peel, blister, or refresh every few years — a genuine benefit in Corte Madera's damp, marine climate, where paint on wood works hard just to hang on. It resists moisture and won't rot. And because it's light and installs efficiently, it's usually the least expensive way to give a house a clean, uniform exterior.

Insulated (foam-backed) vinyl is a step up worth knowing about. A rigid foam backer laminated to the panel adds a measure of thermal performance and stiffens the siding so it lies flatter and resists dents and wind chatter better than hollow-back vinyl. On the level neighborhoods down toward Corte Madera Creek and Tamalpais Drive, where fire exposure isn't the governing concern, insulated vinyl can be a sensible, cost-effective choice.

We work in mainstream vinyl lines including Alside and CertainTeed — CertainTeed in particular offers a deep catalog, which we cover on the Corte Madera CertainTeed page.

Being honest about the trade-offs

Vinyl isn't the right answer everywhere, and we'd rather say so up front:

  • Heat and dark colors. Because pigment runs through the body of the panel, deep and dark colors are limited on many lines, and prolonged extreme heat can cause some warping or fade. Corte Madera's mild, fog-tempered climate is fairly gentle on vinyl, but it's still a real constraint on color choice.
  • The look. Vinyl reads differently up close than wood or fiber cement. On the town's Victorian-era cottages and higher-end custom homes, some owners feel it doesn't do the architecture justice — a matter of taste and budget worth weighing.
  • Fire exposure. This is the important one. Vinyl is combustible. For homes on Christmas Tree Hill or the wooded slopes of upper Chapman Park, where CAL FIRE's 2025 Fire Hazard Severity Zone and WUI maps and Central Marin Fire Department's coverage put fire squarely on the table, vinyl is generally not the material to reach for. Where a parcel sits in a designated hazard zone or the WUI, California Building Code Chapter 7A governs the wall covering and points toward noncombustible or ignition-resistant assemblies — so we'd steer a hillside home toward fiber cement instead. Whether 7A applies to your specific parcel and scope is something we confirm with the Town and the fire authority.

Where vinyl makes the most sense in Corte Madera

Put simply: the bay-flat neighborhoods, on homes outside the fire-hazard and WUI designations, where a homeowner wants a durable, no-repaint exterior at a controlled cost. That's the sweet spot. If that describes your house, vinyl can be an excellent value; if you're on the hill, we'll be candid that a noncombustible material serves you better.

How installation goes

Vinyl still gets a full, proper install. We assess the walls, measure, and pull the Town of Corte Madera building permit — the town is on the 2025 California codes as of January 1, 2026. The existing cladding comes off down to the sheathing so we can inspect the substrate, water-resistive barrier, and flashing, and repair any concealed rot before new material goes up. We renew the WRB and flashing, then install the vinyl with the correct allowances for expansion and a clean course at every opening and transition. We finish with trim, a cleanup, and a walkthrough.

What affects the cost

No two houses price the same. The drivers are the home's size and shape; hollow-back versus insulated vinyl and the line you choose; how much sheathing or rot repair turns up at tear-off; the number of stories and access; and trim or window integration if it's part of the scope. We quote after we've measured.

Frequently asked questions

Is vinyl siding a good idea for a Corte Madera hillside home? Usually not. Vinyl is combustible, and homes on Christmas Tree Hill or in the WUI are better served by a noncombustible material like fiber cement, especially where Chapter 7A applies. We confirm your parcel's fire designation before recommending.

Will vinyl fade or warp in the Marin climate? Corte Madera's mild, foggy climate is relatively easy on vinyl. Extreme, sustained heat is what causes the worst fading and warping, and that's not the local pattern — though dark colors remain limited on many lines.

Is insulated vinyl worth the extra cost? It can be. The foam backing adds some thermal value and makes the panels stiffer and flatter. On a flatland home where you want a longer-term, better-performing vinyl, it's a reasonable upgrade.

Does vinyl need a permit in Corte Madera? Yes. Re-siding is permitted through the Town of Corte Madera Building Division, and we pull it as part of the job.
