Vinyl is the value play in siding, and for a lot of Antioch homeowners that's exactly the point. It's the most affordable cladding we install, it never needs repainting, and modern profiles look nothing like the flimsy vinyl of thirty years ago. Bay Area Siding Company, a Larkspur-based siding and window contractor, installs vinyl across Antioch — and because this is a hot inland market, we'd rather be straight with you about where it shines and where it doesn't than sell you a wall you'll regret. This page covers both.

Want a straight answer on vinyl for your home? Call (415) 619-5167 or request a bid.

The case for vinyl

The appeal is easy to state. Vinyl costs less to buy and less to install than fiber cement or wood. The color runs all the way through the material rather than sitting on the surface, so a scratch doesn't show a different shade underneath and you never repaint. It's light, so installation is quick and access to a second story is simpler. And the range is enormous — dutch lap, traditional lap, vertical board-and-batten looks, and shake and shingle profiles, in a wide palette of colors. If the budget is the deciding factor and you value never having to repaint, vinyl deserves a serious look.

The honest part: vinyl and Antioch heat

Here's what we won't skip. Vinyl is a thermoplastic, which means it expands, contracts, and — under enough sustained heat — can soften or warp. Antioch's summers are genuinely hot with a heavy UV load, and darker vinyl colors absorb more of that heat, which is why some lines cap how dark you can go. This doesn't mean vinyl fails here; plenty of Antioch homes wear it fine. It means the details matter more than they would on the coast: choosing a quality line rated for heat, being realistic about very dark colors on sun-facing walls, and installing it with the correct expansion allowance so the panels can move without buckling. A cheap panel hung tight is what warps. A good panel hung correctly holds up.

If keeping the summer's cooling load down is a priority, ask us about insulated (foam-backed) vinyl. The rigid foam laminated to the back adds a measure of thermal resistance, stiffens the panel so it lies flatter and resists impact, and quiets the wall. It costs more than hollow-back vinyl but narrows the performance gap with pricier materials.

One thing to check first: the fire edge

There's a genuine local caveat. Cal Fire's 2025 maps put High and Very High Fire Hazard Severity Zones along Antioch's southern and southwestern borders and the open ground toward Sand Creek. Vinyl is combustible, and on a parcel where California Building Code Chapter 7A governs the exterior wall, a noncombustible cladding — fiber cement is the usual answer — is generally the appropriate direction. Whether Chapter 7A applies to your address depends on the parcel designation and scope, which we confirm with the City. If you're in the flatter, established parts of town away from that edge, this likely doesn't affect you. If you're near it, we'll tell you plainly that vinyl may not be the right pick and why.

Lines and brands

We install several vinyl lines and match the tier to the budget and the wall. Alside is one option we carry — a long-running vinyl manufacturer with a range from economy to heavier premium profiles. CertainTeed builds some of the most substantial vinyl on the market, including insulated lines and convincing shake and shingle looks; if you like vinyl but want a step up, that's often where we point. We'll show you a few panels side by side so you can feel the difference in thickness and finish before you commit.

How a vinyl re-side goes

Vinyl installs faster than heavier materials, but the wall behind it still has to be right. We remove the old cladding, inspect the sheathing and substrate, confirm the water-resistive barrier is intact, and correct flashing at windows, doors, and penetrations. Then the vinyl goes up over the prepared wall with proper starter strips, J-channel, and — critically — the expansion gaps the material needs. Exterior siding work in Antioch is permitted through the Building Inspection Services Division in the Community Development Department at City Hall on H Street; we handle the permit and the inspection sequence.

What affects the price

Vinyl is the budget material, but "vinyl" spans a wide range. Cost drivers include the grade of panel (economy hollow-back versus premium or insulated), the size and height of the home, how much substrate or dry-rot repair turns up once the old siding is off, the amount of trim and detailing, and site access. Insulated vinyl and heavier premium profiles move the number up but buy performance and a flatter, more upscale look. We price it after a walkthrough.

FAQ

Will vinyl siding warp in Antioch's summer heat? A quality line, in a sensible color, installed with the correct expansion allowance, holds up here. The failures you hear about usually trace to cheap panels, very dark colors on sun-facing walls, or an install with no room to move. We steer you away from those.

Can I get vinyl in a dark color? Sometimes, but with limits. Because vinyl's color is through-body and dark shades absorb more heat, some lines restrict how dark you can go on a given exposure to avoid warping. Newer heat-stable formulations widen the options; we'll tell you what's safe for your walls.

Is vinyl OK if my home is near the south or southwest fire-hazard zone? Possibly not. Vinyl is combustible, and Chapter 7A can require noncombustible cladding on fire-hazard parcels. We check your parcel's designation first; if it applies, we'll point you to fiber cement instead of selling you vinyl.

How does vinyl compare to fiber cement here? Vinyl wins on up-front cost and never needs paint. Fiber cement wins on heat stability, fade resistance, and fire resistance. In a hot, fire-adjacent market a lot of homeowners still choose fiber cement for the durability — but where budget rules and the parcel allows it, well-installed vinyl is a legitimate choice.
