When re-siding beats another repair

That matters for cladding because California Building Code Chapter 7A governs exterior wall coverings in designated fire-hazard areas and generally points toward noncombustible or ignition-resistant materials or tested assemblies. Whether — and how — Chapter 7A applies comes down to your parcel's designation, the product, and the scope of work, so we confirm it with the City rather than assume. If you're on the hill side, tell us early; it steers the material choice.

The fault under the city, and what cracking really means. The Hayward Fault runs through the city, and long-term ground movement is part of the backdrop here. We raise it only for a practical reason: when a wall shows cracking or trim that keeps pulling apart, the cause isn't always the siding itself — sometimes it's minor settlement or movement telegraphing through the assembly. At tear-off we can see whether the problem is a failed cladding layer or something in the structure behind it, so you're not paying to re-skin over an issue that new siding won't fix.

Housing stock. Downtown and the older neighborhoods around it hold Craftsman bungalows and Spanish-influenced cottages, while the great middle of Hayward is postwar ranch tract housing — a lot of which still wears original wood, stucco, or first-generation composite siding that's overdue.
